Art Dexter

Art Neal Dexter, 89, of Rawlins passed away Tues. Dec. 12, 2017. He was born Sept. 25, 1928 in Hanna, WY to parents, John and Margaret (Jack) Dexter. He graduated from Rawlins H.S. in 1946. He then served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Ft. Bliss, TX, where he served as an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Weapons Mechanic. Art married Sharron Wetmore on Apr. 5, 1955 in Salt Lake City, UT at the LDS Temple. He was a member of the LDS Church. Art worked at the Sinclair Refinery for 43 ½ years, retiring in 1990. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, past Secretary of the Sinclair Rifle and Pistol Club, past President of the Parco Credit Union and an OCAW Union Representative. He was an avid hunter and loved spending his days in the hills with his rifle. Art and Sharron also liked to travel and were able to make two trips to England to visit his cousins. They also went to Hawaii and took a cruise to Alaska, which was a lifelong dream of his. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sharron of Rawlins, WY; three children, Sherrill (Gregg) James of Casper, WY, Stacey (Gordon) France of Rawlins, WY and Linzi Barenz of Cheyenne, WY; five grandchildren, Chadd (Mindy) France of Green River, WY, Brad (Nichole) France of Rock Springs, WY, Wes (Alyssa) France of Rock Springs, WY, Jessica (Bryce) Coffendaffer of Olathe, KS and Garrett (Trich) James of Green River, WY; five great-grandchildren, Raymond Stocks, Taisa Stocks, Tailor France, Hailey France and Emersyn France; and three nieces, Margette (Russ) Arnell of Gilbert, AZ, Paulette (Jim) Harkness of San Antonio, TX and Jacque (Bud) Henderson of Cottonwood, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Robert, Leonard Attryde and Oliver William; and a sister, Margaret Spackman. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Mon. Dec. 18, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rawlins with viewing one hour prior to service in the Relief Society Room at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in the Rawlins Cemetery.
