Arthur Greene

Arthur F. "Bud" Greene, 93, of Rawlins passed away Nov. 26, 2016. He was born Apr. 3, 1923 in Fromberg, MT to parents Cnelja (Holthouse) and William Greene. Services will be held Thurs. Dec. 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Rawlins. Rev. Terry Wiley will officiate. Bud grew up in the Clarks Fork area of northwestern Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. of 1943 through Dec. of 1945. His company, the 666th Engineer Topographic Co. was involved in the Normandy and Rhineland campaigns, where he used surveying equipment to determine the position of artillery placements for mapping purposes. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to northwest Wyoming where he held several jobs and met his future wife, Gladys Marie Shoopman. The two were married Dec. 13, 1946 in Billings, MT. They enjoyed nearly 68 years together before her passing on Oct. 17, 2014. Bud worked for the WY Dept. of Transportation living in Ten Sleep, where sons, Bobby and Stanley were born. He was then transferred to Lovell, where son, Jay was born. The family then lived in Casper before being transferred to Rawlins in 1954, where he was only to remain for one year. In 1956, son, Jimmy was born. While in Rawlins, Bud helped survey and build most of the highways in Wyoming and in the winter, plowed them. He retired from the Highway Dept. after 25 years of employment. He also worked for Nelson Engineering and Medicine Bow Coal Co. He was the Building and Grounds Supervisor for Carbon County. He also mowed the fairways for both the Sinclair and Rochelle Ranch Golf Courses. Survivors include his sister, Geraldine Moore of Pinehurst, NC; sons, Robert (Michelle) Greene of Parker, CO, Stan (Jeannie) Greene of Vernal, UT and Jay Greene of Rawlins, WY; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; and son, Jimmy. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made in Bud's memory to the charity of your choice.
