Bette McCullough

February 14, 1924 — August 12, 2015

Bette Joan McCullough left this earth to soar with the angels on August 12, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Bette was born in Harlan County, Nebraska February 14, 1924, to William and Elva Vincent. She had two younger brothers, Milton and Loren, who preceded her in death. She married her college sweetheart, Lloyd G. McCullough, on August 24, 1943 in Tyler Texas, in the middle of World War II. They were married for sixty-six years until Lloyd's death in 2009. Bette was a positive role model and loving mother to four children: Rita, Ron, Jeannine and Susan. The family lived in McCook, Nebraska for six years before moving to Laramie, Wyoming in 1952. Bette attended Kearney State Teachers College before the War and earned her degree from the University of Wyoming. She was a dedicated second grade teacher in Laramie for twenty-eight years. She was a member of several professional organizations and was awarded "Teacher of the Year" in 1981. She touched the lives of over 500 children during her career and was considered to be "their favorite teacher" by most. After Lloyd's death, Bette moved to Billings, Montana in 2012, to be closer to family. She quickly made friends with her neighbors and with her beloved church family at Evangelical United Methodist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church on Sundays, as well as Bible Study with her "sisters," on Mondays. Bette was a person of many gifts who lived her faith. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, her loving husband Lloyd, and her eldest daughter, Rita. She is survived by her son Ronald McCullough (Jeny), her daughters Jeannine Reed and Susan Furphy (Steve), seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Bette's beautiful smile and warm heart will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. A celebration of Bette's life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Evangelical United Methodist Church, located at 345 Broadwater Avenue, Billings MT. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Evangelical United Methodist Church, Rocky Mountain Hospice, or another charity of choice.
