Carolyn Newell

Carolyn LuRena Newell passed away on November 21, 2015 at her home after a lengthy illness. Carolyn was born November 27, 1936 in Chariton, Iowa to parents Leon and Lillian Delpierre. When she was 6 months old the family moved to Wyoming. They settled permanently in Rawlins in 1949. Carolyn graduated from Rawlins High School in 1954. In 1955 she married Merv Gettman, Sr. and moved to Colorado. After the couple divorced, Carolyn and her four sons moved back to Rawlins in 1971. All four of her sons graduated from Rawlins High School. Carolyn worked at Bi-Rite Drug, the Carbon County Treasurers office, and the Wyoming State Penitentiary. She retired from the Pen in 2001. In 1991 Carolyn married her school classmate, Melton Newell, and together with family and friends, renovated the family cabin south of Rawlins. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent at the cabin. Preceding Carolyn in death were her parents, a sister, Leone Wilkerson, and an infant sister Kathleen. Also preceding her in death are three sons; Rocky, Leonard, and Robert Gettman; step grandson, Scott Beach; and step son, Morris Newell. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Melton; son Merv (Sue) Gettman, Jr.; grandchildren, Dezi (Chad) Palmer, Matthew (Oriana) Gettman, Jennifer (Chad) Sommers, Jordan (Logan) Hancock; nine great grandchildren, Kody, Brooke, and Trista Palmer; Gaige, Carmen, and Hunter Gettman, Kai Sommers, Weston and Kennedy Hancock; brother, Louis (Shirley) Delpierre; step daughters, Suzie (Andy) Sparks, Anna (Jeff) Beach, and several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a special cousin and friend, Jackie Dolce.
