Catherian Barto

Catherian "Lavon" Barto, 86, died peacefully with her family in Flagstaff, Ariz. She was born in Winnsboro, Texas on Feb. 8, 1932 to James and Catherian "Golda" Farmer. She later moved to Denver, Colo., and settled in Rawlins, Wyo., where she and her husband Charles raised their three children, John, Jim and Lynn. She spent the last 16 years with her daughter and family in Flagstaff, Ariz. Lavon worked as a homemaker and mother though she met her husband of 50 years while working as a nursing aide at Spears Hospital in Denver, Colo. Lavon greeted everyone with a smile and was always happy to just be present with others. She loved to be outside camping, hunting for mushrooms, walking in nature, as well as watching airplanes fly by and finding shapes in the clouds above. She enjoyed playing piano, dancing, bingo and playing cards as well as writing poems and doing crosswords. Her green thumb and cooking skills came naturally and will be remembered fondly by all of her family. Her day was always complete when she enjoyed a sweet treat. Lavon will be missed deeply by all who knew her. Her legacy will be carried and stories told by her three children John Barto, Jim (Valerie) Barto, Lynn (Les) Butters, her 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Gil), Julie, Buddy, Jamie (Josh), Joseph (Amanda), Stephanie (Ben), Kristin (John), Trevor, Heather, Tonya, Diane (Chris) and Michael as well as her 25 great grandchildren (soon to be 26): Jordan, Marcus, Hokte, Mia, Ashton, Cameron, Anna, Abby, Kobe, Joey, Tucker, Kolter, Addison, Hudson, Payson, Charlotte, Micah, Gavin, Tatum, Haley, Cameron, Nicholas, Paul, Autumn and Amber and numerous friends and loved ones. Services for Catherian Lavon Barto will be held at Jacoby Funeral Home in Rawlins, Wyo. on Saturday, June 23, 2018. There will be a viewing at 9 a.m. with the service beginning at 10 a.m. Lavon will be buried beside her loving husband at the Rawlins Cemetery following the service. Those that wish to gather and share stories of Lavon with her family and loved ones are welcome to join for a reception at the Hampton Inn from noon-2 p.m.
