Chris Ockinga

November 27, 1951 — February 7, 2014

Christopher D. "Chris" Ockinga, 62, of Rawlins, passed away Feb. 7, 2014, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center as a result of a pulmonary embolism which led to respiratory arrest. A public visitation with viewing will take place on Thurs. Feb. 13, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carbon County Funeral Home in Rawlins. A funeral service will be held on Fri. Feb. 14, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Rawlins. Pastor Terry Wiley will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dave Walker, Gerald Snodgrass, Lee Bonnett, Ron Wilkes, Thom Walker and Kelly Bonnett. Interment will follow in the Rawlins Cemetery. Chris was born Nov. 27, 1951, in Torrington, WY to parents Virginia (Richardson) and Wayne Ockinga. He moved to Rawlins in 1964 and graduated from Rawlins High School in 1971. He had worked for Kinnamon Supply with his Dad for over 20 years as an automotive machinist. For the past five years he had worked for True Value of Rawlins. Chris loved his cat, Max and enjoyed hunting, fishing, artifact hunting and flying remote control airplanes. He made several trips to Canada, fishing with close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two brothers: Jerry of Rawins and Mike (Kathy) of Lander, WY; three nieces: Laurie, Madeliene and Genevieve Miller of The Woodlands, TX; and numerous close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chris' name may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 397, Rawlins, WY 82301.
