Curtis Melson

December 10, 1930 — October 30, 2012

Curtis Gene Melson, 81, of Rawlins, passed away Oct. 30, 2012. He was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Russellville, AR, to parents Grace (Clayborn) and Audie Melson. He served in the U.S. Navy and upon honorable discharge, moved to Hanna, WY and then to Rawlins in 1954. On Feb. 8, 1953, in Hanna, he was married to "Jo" Hapgood. He had worked for Northern Gas for many years before retiring as a District Manager. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of the Wyoming Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and Colorado Rockies. Survivors include two sons: Curtis Lee (Yvonne) Melson of Rock Springs and Kevin Melson of Denver; a daughter, Kathleen Klaserner of Lakewood, CO; five grandchildren: Laura (Tiger) Robison of Wallingford, CT, Meghann (Sean) Ziegler of Denver, Michael Melson of Busan, Korea, Christopher Melson of Austin, TX, and Jenna Bringe of Nashville, TN; a great-grandson, Hudson Ziegler; a brother, Ron Melson of FL; and two sisters: Georgia Hubbard of FL and Wanda Colburn of IN. He was preceded in death by his wife, "Jo" Melson; his parents, Grace and Audie Melson; a brother, Don Melson; and a sister, Barb Carter. Vigil service with recitation of the Rosary will be held on Fri. Nov. 9, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rawlins. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sat. Nov. 10, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Sam Hayes as the Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Steve Henry, Michael Melson, Christopher Melson, Tiger Robison, Bill Rogers, and Sean Ziegler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Kladianos and Wes Tabor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Mr. Melson's memory to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, 222 W. Spruce St. Rawlins, WY 82301. Carbon County Funeral Home in Rawlins is assisting the family.
