David Martinez

David A. Martinez passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the age of 82. David was born on November 29, 1931, and married Carol Fernandez on July 11, 1955. They made their home in Ely, Nevada where David worked at Kennecott for 26 years. He moved his family to Rawlins, Wyoming in 1979 and worked at Union 76 until 1983. He then worked at the Wyoming State Penitentiary until his retirement in 1992. David was preceded in death by, Carol Martinez (loving mother and wife who passed away in 1983); parents, Juan and Emiliana (Salazar) Martinez; his brother, Rudy Martinez ; son-in-laws, Hector Elizondo and John Gutierrez and nephew, Mark Martinez. He is survived by daughters Leeann Barela (David), Fort Collins, Co; Debbie Elizondo, Elko, Nevada; Dodie Lopez (Benito), Rawlins, Wyoming; Tori Martinez, Elko, Nevada and son Steve Martinez (Jeanette) of Elko, Nevada . Also surviving are grandchildren Diane Gutierrez, Fort Collins, CO; Janie Croft (Kieth) Denver, CO; Ben (Tina) Barela, Fort Collins, CO; Lawrence Barela, Fort Collins, CO; Christine Barela; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Andrew Elizondo Elko, Nevada; Caitlin and Benito Lopez Rawlins Wyoming; Angelique and Kaleb Martinez Elko, Nevada and one great grandson, Jordan Croft of Denver. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Horacio (Cordy) Martinez, Odelsa (Fernandez) Chacon, Canon de Vallecitos; Epimenia (Robert) Montoya ,La Madera, New Mexico; Manuel (Mary) Martinez, Elsie Lovato, Espanola New Mexico; and sister-in-Law Zella Martinez, Leadville Colorado. David is described by his family as being strong-willed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and especially giving his friends and family a hard time.
