Dorothy Smith

April 28, 1927 — January 18, 2018

"Today we said good bye to the matriarch of a family. A kind and compassionate woman who went pig hunting, played video games, and drank whiskey every day promptly at 5. Thank you very much for your kindness, life enthusiasm, great stories, great food, and grit that came from a Wyoming upbringing. You survived defending a ranch, adventures in Denver, marrying an engineering surveyor, starting a business and raising a family, dealing with grand kids, 50+ years of marriage, and did it all with kindness, grace, wit, and a smile. May we all be so lucky to be able to get 90 years of that kind of life! Here's to you." Hans Pedersen 01-18-18 FB. Dorothy Louise Bundy Smith passed away January 18, 2018. She was the wife of Robert Jack Smith, and the very proud mother of her five children, Carolyn Hicks of South Carolina, Patty Pedersen of Rawlins; Bryan and Wanda Smith of California; Kent and Berta Stavely Smith of Texas; and Scott Smith of Washington, and three grandchildren Amanda Raciboski of North Carolina, Charlotte Raciboski of Mexico, and Hans Pedersen of Rawlins. She lived in Rawlins from 1955 - 1985, then retired to Albuquerque, NM in 1985, until she moved back to Rawlins to live with her daughter, Patty, in 2014. Dorothy was a great seamstress; she sewed clothes and made over 100 Frostline Kits including coats, tents, sleeping bags, and a plethora of other items for her children and friends. Dorothy loved to entertain and opened her home to several exchange students, friends and business associates, and many travelers who were stranded in Rawlins during winter storms. Her home was fondly known as the "Smith Hotel". Her husband was proud to brag about her cooking abilities. She was also an avid traveler. She and Jack traveled throughout the United States and took several "National Geographic" trips to Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, China, and Europe. She was a member of the France Memorial Presbyterian church for 30+ years where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir, and served as a Deacon. She also was a Deacon and an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Rawlins Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 followed by a lunch for all. An internment service will be held in August at the Moorcroft Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband Robert Jack. Dorothy will be remembered as a Godly woman as described in Proverbs 31, "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. "
