Edward Dettinger

July 16, 1942 — June 8, 2016

Edward M. Dettinger, a resident of Rawlins, Wyoming since 1991 (and previously from 1977 until 1985) passed away at his home June 8, 2016. Edward was born in 1942 in Saratoga, Wyoming (Parents James and Serene Dettinger). He attended school in Encampment and Ryan Park. Edward and his family moved to California in 1951, where he graduated from South Torrance High School in 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1966 (stationed in Korea and Dominican Republic). Following his honorable discharge, he went to school and became a journeyman plumber and pipe fitter. In May of 1967, he married Myrna Aubrey (she preceded him in death October 2012). Ed used to say he did not like California (was too busy), and that he would return to Wyoming. He followed his heart and moved to Riverside, Wyoming in 1977, where he built his own house, a log cabin. He and Myrna lived there for about eight years before moving to Las Vegas for employment purposes. In 1991, he again returned to Wyoming, settling in Rawlins. Being a plumber by trade, he worked in that capacity for several years, and eventually went to work at the Wyoming State Penitentiary as the Boiler House Trades Specialist. He worked at the penitentiary for 13 years, retiring June 30, 2004. Edward was a quiet and honorable man. He enjoyed doing puzzles and listening to music. He lived a happy and fulfilled life and loved being a resident of Rawlins. Edward is survived by his father, James Dettinger (La Puente, Calif.), his sister, Nancy Standeford (Garden Grove, Calif.), his niece, Kimberly Rodriguez (Midway City, Calif), his niece, Teresa Leger (Sheridan, Wy.), and nephew, Wil Beaver (Sheridan, Wy.), four great-nieces, one great-nephew, one great-great niece and three great-great nephews. The family will hold a celebration of life on July 16, 2016, at his niece's house in Midway City California. The service will be officiated by Gary Malkus (husband to second cousin, Danielle, grand-daughter of Ellen Dettinger/Deems) of Calvary Chapel Church in Apple Valley.
