Ellen “Ellie” Noonan, born on January 4, 1937, in Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 24, 2026, in Laramie, Wyoming. With her passing, Wyoming has lost a beloved educator, family matriarch, and a radiant spirit who touched countless lives with her brilliant mind, generous heart, and unforgettable smile.
From her earliest days growing up in Wyoming, Ellie’s warmth, intelligence, and determination were evident to everyone who knew her. She graduated from Natrona County High School in 1955, demonstrating an early commitment to learning that would shape the course of her life. Pursuing her passion for education even further, she earned a Master's in Education and a Master's in Administration—credentials that marked the beginning of a distinguished career as a teacher and school administrator.
Ellie’s impact as an educator extended far beyond the classroom. Colleagues and students alike remember her as a bright presence with a contagious laugh, nurturing those around her and inspiring achievement wherever she went. Her dedication to shaping young minds was reflected in her steadfast involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at both the state and national levels. To her students, she was more than a teacher—she was a mentor and a guiding light, always encouraging others to reach for their dreams.
But Ellie’s thirst for adventure and joy did not end at the schoolhouse door. In her four decades as a pilot, she soared over the great expanse of Wyoming, managing the remarkable feat of landing at every official airport in the state within just two days. Her love of travel took her even further afield—crossing the Atlantic Ocean on the storied QE2 not once but twice—always embracing new horizons with curiosity and courage.
Ellie’s zest for life permeated everything she did. She found joy in fishing and treasured the serenity of winter getaways spent in Hawaii or Palm Springs. These moments of adventure and tranquility were all the sweeter when shared with family and friends, whose company she cherished above all else. Her happiest times were those surrounded by loved ones, her eyes crinkling in laughter, her presence brightening any gathering.
Above all, Ellie’s heart belonged to her family. She was the devoted wife of Pat Noonan for nearly 59 years—a partnership grounded in love, companionship, and mutual respect. Though Pat preceded her in death, their bond was a source of immense pride and comfort to Ellie throughout her life. She was a loving mother to Marty (Debbie) Noonan, her daughter-in-law, Leah Noonan, sister to Sandy Alsup, and grandmother to Jenny (Steve) Graham, Jason (Carey) Welch, Shawna (John) Goetz, Bob Noonan, and Brent (Christie) Hunter. Ellie was extremely proud of her 7 great-grandchildren and all her nieces and nephews. Every milestone her family celebrated, every hardship they faced, Ellie was there, offering support, humor, and unconditional love. She now joins her beloved husband, Pat, her sons, Mike and Kevin, her granddaughter, Kristi, and her parents, Walter and Rosemary Huffman, in peaceful rest. To those who survive her—her son, Marty; daughter-in-law, Leah; sister, Sandy; and grandchildren, Jenny, Jason, Shawna, Bob, and Brent—Ellie leaves a legacy of perseverance, joy, and kindness. Her warm, welcoming ways and her devotion to others remain vivid in the memories of everyone who knew her.
A Rosary will be held on June 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 219 W. Pine St., Rawlins, Wyoming. The funeral Mass in celebration of Ellie’s life will be held on July 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Following the service, Ellie will be laid to rest at Rawlins Cemetery, 915 3rd St, Rawlins, Wyoming, at 11:00 a.m.
Ellen “Ellie” Noonan’s light will be missed, but never extinguished in the hearts of those who loved her. Her memory will remain a blessing, her story an inspiration—a true testament to a life beautifully lived.
