Frances Braun

November 24, 1923 — May 30, 2016

Frances Mae Gipp Braun, 92, of Rawlins and formerly of Hanna, passed away May 30, 2016. She was born November 24, 1923 in Lewistown Montana to parents Adolph and Margaret Gipp. A Memorial Service will take place on June 23, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hanna Recreation Center with Pastor Wiley officiating. Interment will follow in the Hanna Cemetery. A luncheon will be served following the interment at the Hanna Recreation Center. Frances was married to Melvin Albert Braun in 1943. They moved from Wisconsin to Hanna WY in 1954. There were 14 children born into the family. This produced 27 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hanna until she transferred her membership to Christ Lutheran in Rawlins. She was active in the church Sunday School, was President of the VFW from 1977 to 1982 and assumed Secretary/Treasurer duties from 1983 to 1997. She was involved in the PTA and the Hanna Red Hats Society. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Hanna High School, tended bar for a while and in her younger years worked for Alice Chalmers in Illinois. She loved flowers and flower arrangement and of course, her children. There is some controversy around a nickname she had as a child, "Berries". She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin and two daughters, Laura and Alana. She is survived by 12 children, 27 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Her wishes were that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
