Gaylord Thomas “GT” Larson, 90, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 2, 2025, just five months after the passing of his beloved wife, Sarah. Theirs was a love story for the ages—married for 68 years, they built a life full of faith, family, and service.
GT was born in 1935 on the ranch his family homesteaded near Gillette, Wyoming, to Goldie and Lawrence Larson. He was the oldest of three boys, growing up alongside his younger brothers Larry and Lynn. He joined the U.S. Navy as a young man and proudly served for over two decades, rising to the top enlisted rank of Master Chief. It was during his service that he met Sarah at a dance in Pennsylvania. They married soon after and together raised nine children with love, discipline, humor, and deep devotion.
After retiring from the Navy, GT returned to Wyoming and worked at the Sinclair Oil Refinery. He also dedicated more than 30 years volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul, always more concerned with how others were doing than with himself.
A true Wyoming man, GT was most at home in the outdoors. He loved hunting in Sunlight Basin and fishing at Seminoe Reservoir—passions he shared with his children. He was a skilled and patient teacher, passing down not only his knowledge of the land but also his strong values of integrity, responsibility, and faith. He was also a world-class Denver Broncos fan—rain or shine, win or lose—and proudly wore the orange and blue through every season. GO BRONCOS!
He was strict but fair—traits befitting a Master Chief raising nine kids—and always kept order with a firm hand and a kind heart. Above all, GT was devoted to his wife. Her passing in March left him heartbroken, but we take comfort in knowing they are now reunited.
GT is survived by his nine children: Tom (Rachel), Joe (Renae), Paul (Margaret), Peter (Theresa), John (Dana), Mary (John), Larry (Brenda), Jimmy (Diane), and Bill (Larisa). He was a proud grandfather to: Jeromy, Andrew, Jason “AJ”, David, Nathan, Simon, Sarah, Amy, Little Joe, Kris, Noah, Eli, Lucy, Sam, David, Zachary, Anthony, Jacob, Catherine, Deacon, Arabella, Quinn, Liam, John, Joseph, Bridgette, Wyatt, Waylon, and William. His great-grandchildren include: Royal, Rome, Isaac, Josiah, Grace, William, Jonathon, Emma, Kru, Armonie, Jace, and Jojo.
He is also survived by his brother Lynn Larson and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
GT was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah C. Larson, and his brother Larry Larson.
