Rawlins

James “Butch” King, resident of Rawlins, Wyoming, passed away on May 1, 2023 in Rawlins at the age of 83 years.
Butch was born on April 15, 1940 in Boise, Idaho to James Peter King and Lucille Mae (Koepnick) King.  He was the 5th of 7 children.  Butch was married to Susan Jane (Coffey) King in 1962 and the couple celebrated 61 years of marriage on March 2, 2023.  Butch and Susan owned Butch’s Garage and later Wyoming Diesel Service.  Butch semi-retired in 1994 but continued to help out until the business was sold in 2019.
Butch was a private pilot who bought a plane so he could go visit his grandchildren in Omaha, Nebraska.  He enjoyed flying for as long his health allowed.  He also enjoyed fishing, spending time in the mountains, working on mechanical projects around the house, vegetable gardens, time with his wife, his children and grandchildren, visiting with people in town, and walking with his German Shepherd dog, Cali.  Butch was interested in politics and avidly followed a number of political theorists every day.
Butch always had an innovative and inquisitive mind, solving engine problems that challenged corporate engineers.  He was able to invent tools and processes to make work better and easier.  He was self-educated in complex subjects like chemistry, physics and engineering.  He was interested in learning about the world and visited Europe, Australia, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Guatemala, and Hawaii.  Visiting and learning about places was a lifelong passion.  Butch was always learning and challenging the conventional ways of thinking.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan.
Butch’s children are Carol King and son, Andrew King, from Casper, Wyoming.  Susan (King) Russell and husband Keith, from Montgomery, Texas and daughter, Mikaela Coughanour and husband, Ryan from Riverton, Wyoming; daughter Mikenzie Sturdevant and husband, Dallas from Martinez, Georgia; and, son Jeremy Taylor from Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Bryce Russell and wife, Stacey from Montgomery, Texas; and, daughter, Sarah Russell, from Conroe, Texas.  James (Jim) King and wife Sherri, from Rawlins, Wyoming and son, Justin Patterson and wife, Kamie from Rawlins, Wyoming and daughter, Ashley Patterson, from Modesto, California.  John King and partner, Roger Sandoval, from Laramie, Wyoming.
Butch has 11 great grandchildren including: MaKenlee, Kale, and Libby Patterson; Edie, Bowen, Annabelle, and Grace Russell; Colin and Cora Coughanour; and Lucas and Westley Taylor.
Butch was the last surviving sibling from his birth family.  His wife, Susan, is the last surviving spouse of his birth family.
