IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnnie Ray
Upchurch
June 15, 1958 – January 30, 2026
Johnnie Ray Upchurch, born on June 15, 1958, in Atlanta, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on January 30, 2026, in Saratoga, Wyoming. His life was a testament to kindness and selflessness, qualities that resonated throughout his career and personal endeavors.
Johnnie dedicated much of his professional life to his passion for autobody work. He took pride in his craft, and those who had the pleasure of working with him, such as Mike, found their interactions with him to be characterized by his patient nature and an unwavering commitment to lend a hand whenever needed. His bright and easy-going disposition never failed to brighten the days of those around him, as he was known to have, “not a mean bone in his body,” with the rare ability to make anyone feel valued and appreciated.
Alongside his professional achievements, Johnnie cherished the many memories he created with his family. Car rides with Johnnie were never mundane, filled with laughter and stories. Together with his beloved wife, Diana Sharp, they navigated life’s storms, both literally and figuratively, including riding out hurricanes in Florida. Johnnie was immensely proud of their union after 27 years together, finding joy in the simple moments they shared.
In his leisure time, Johnnie was a man of many interests. He found joy in solving puzzles, building with Legos, and had a particular fondness for collecting chickens. His talent for constructing things extended beyond mere hobbies; he was also an enthusiastic cook and loved riding motorcycles, having raced in his younger years. His creative spirit was reflected not just in his hobbies, but in his interactions with his family and friends, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
Johnnie proudly served six years in the U.S. Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge in 1982, reflecting his dedication to service. His legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Diana; his sons, Jason Sharp; his daughter-in-law, Kaci Sharp; and Christopher Sharp, and his cherished grandchildren, David, Colt, Jaycie, and Sutherlynn. He is also survived by brothers and sisters in laws Dave and Velma, Steve and Debbie, Donna and Rick, Dean and Susan, Jeffrey and Joy and his niece and nephew, Patty and Kevin Paul, who will all fondly remember him.
Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters as well as a circle of close friends, including his best friends George, Richard, and Ron.
As we honor the remarkable life of Johnnie Ray Upchurch, we remember him as a gentle soul whose kindness, patience, and understanding will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. His legacy of love and generosity remains etched in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
