February 27, 1954 — November 9, 2025

Saratoga, WY

Larry Hepner, a proud lifelong resident of the valley, passed away peacefully at home on November 9th, with his beloved wife Joanne by his side. Born on February 27, 1954, in Rawlins, Wyoming, Larry was a native of the valley for all of his 71 years—a fact he cherished deeply.

Larry was the son of Elsie and Harry Hepner and grew up in Saratoga, where he attended local schools and developed a passion for athletics. A standout student-athlete, he played football, basketball, and ran track in high school. His talent and dedication earned him a basketball scholarship to Eastern Wyoming College.

In 1974, Larry married Joanne, beginning a partnership that spanned more than five decades. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised two children: Jeff (Christin) of California and Lindsay (Eric) of Michigan. Larry was a proud grandfather to Quintus Hepner, Henry Kalberer, and Grady Kalberer.

Larry’s life was marked by service, craftsmanship, and community spirit. He served for many years on the Saratoga Cemetery Board and the Saratoga Rec Board, contributing to the town he loved so dearly. Professionally, he worked in construction, crafted custom furniture, and retired as the Facilities Manager for Carbon County School District #2. He also shared his love of sports by coaching high school football and middle school girls and boys basketball.

Larry’s passions extended beyond work and service. He found joy in fishing, camping, road trips, grilling, and cheering on his favorite football teams. His warmth, humor, and dedication to family and community left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Joanne, his children and grandchildren, and his siblings: Terry (Catherine) of Indiana, Patty (Dutch) of Idaho, Rich (Joan) of Casper, Bob (Lisa) of Sinclair, and Tom (Dawn) of Colorado.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held in July, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and share stories of a life well lived.
