Longtime Rawlins resident, Larry James Kmoch, passed away at home on Sunday, November 26th, 2017. Larry was born on January 5th, 1939 on his family farm near Leigh, Nebraska to parents Henry Joseph Kmoch and Agnes Ellen Kmoch. Larry grew up on the family farm with his brother, Norbert; and sisters, Janice and Marilyn. Larry graduated from Leigh High School in Leigh, Nebraska in 1957 and went on to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. During this time, he met Cecile Corkle, and they went married on December 28th, 1961. A year later, they welcomed their daughter, Susan Marie Kmoch. Larry then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from the University of Nebraska. The family then moved to Colorado where he started his long career with the Bureau of Land Management and welcomed their son, Michael Patrick Kmoch. Prior to moving to Wyoming, they welcomed their second son, Jeffrey Alan Kmoch. After moving to Lander, Wyoming for a short time, the family settled in Rawlins where Larry worked at the BLM Rawlins District Office for 23 years before retiring in 1997. During these years, Larry also worked as a gunsmith and operated his own business; Sportsman's Service, which he continued to operate until the time of his passing. Throughout his years in Rawlins, Larry was very involved in the community in various ways. He was a member of the Rawlins City Council from 1997 to 2007, serving as Mayor from 1999 to 2001. Larry enjoyed being a member of the Carbon County Predator Management District Board, Great Divide Shooting Association, and National Rifle Association. Additionally, Larry was a Wyoming Hunter Safety Instructor and a member of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild. Larry will be remembered as a loving husband, father, cherished friend, avid sportsman, and respected business owner who took pride in his involvement in the community. He touched the hearts of many and was a true blessing to all who knew him. Larry is survived by his wife, Cecile (Corkle) Kmoch; daughter, Susan Kmoch-Campbell and her husband, Jeff; son, Jeff Kmoch and his wife, Shanna; brother, Norbert Kmoch and his wife, Mary; sister, Janice Sindelar and her husband, Joe; grandson, Jon McNees and his wife, Cortney; grandsons, Robby McNees, Daniel Kmoch, and Jacob Kmoch; granddaughter, Grace Kmoch; great grandson, Nolan McNees; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Michael Kmoch; his sister, Marilyn Wagner; and his parents, Henry and Agnes Kmoch. To celebrate his life, Father Sam Hayes will conduct a Rosary on Friday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. and a funeral mass on Saturday, December 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rawlins, Wyoming. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Kmoch, Jeff Campbell, Jonathan McNees, Robby McNees, Larry Jackson, Jim Seay, Jim Willcox, and Jim Ainsworth. Following the service, a luncheon will be provided in the St. Joseph's school cafeteria. Burial will follow at a later date at Leigh Cemetery in Leigh, Nebraska.
