Margery Schmidt

Margery Jean (Polzkill) Schmidt passed away on March 13, 2015, in Gillette, WY. Margery was born June 20, 1934, at home in Stapleton, NE. She was the second daughter of Carl and Kathryn (Raftery) Polzkill. Margery graduated from Stapleton High School and went on to earn a business degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where she graduated in May of 1956. While attending the university, she met her future husband, Leonard Schmidt. They were married on September 7, 1957, in Stapleton. They relocated to Rawlins, WY, where she resided for the next 57 years. During her years in Rawlins, Margery worked as an executive secretary for Brimmer and McPherson Law Firm and the Carbon County School District #1. Following retirement, Margery continued to stay active in her community. Margery is survived by her son, David Schmidt of Denver, CO; daughter, Kathryn (Ray) Schmidt-Miller of Gillette, WY; son Douglas Schmidt of Sinclair, WY; daughter, Judy (Mike) Galuska of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren, Joe and Tom Schmidt, Dominique Dykes and Kyle Schmidt, Lauren and Hannah Miller, and Tyler and Evan Galuska; great-grandson, Jace Dykes; sister, Helen Miller of Vancouver, WA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 54 years, Leonard Schmidt. Services will take place on Wed. March 18, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Carbon County Funeral Home in Rawlins. Father Sam Hayes will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the Days Inn in Rawlins. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, P.O. Box 1654, Rawlins, WY 82301.
