Mary Jane (Thiessen) Campbell

Mary Jane (Thiessen) Campbell passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2026, in Rawlins, Wyoming, surrounded by family she loved so dearly. She leaves a legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and a family forever shaped by her example.

Mary was born on January 6, 1935, in Ashland, Nebraska, to Orval and Catherine (Brown) Thiessen, where she was raised with the values that would guide her throughout her life. During her school years, she served as a drum majorette, accompanied the choir on the piano, and earned the honor of being selected for the Nebraska All-State Choir. On June 19, 1952, Mary married Gary H. Campbell, in Marysville, Kansas. They shared more than 72 years of marriage, raised five daughters, Cathy, Connie, Courtney, Camilla, and Candi, and built a life centered on family, devotion, and perseverance through life's many seasons. She enjoyed sewing for her daughters when they were young and even made wedding dresses and prom dresses for them.

Over the years, Mary and Gary made their home in Grand Island, Sidney, and Chadron, Nebraska, before moving to Newcastle, Wyoming, in 1963. They later settled in Rawlins in 1977, where they spent 34 years raising their family and building lifelong friendships. In 2010, they retired to Riverton, Wyoming and spent winters in Mesquite, NV.

A devoted Methodist, Mary Jane's faith was a deep foundation of her life. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women for many years, and a proud member of Chapter U of P.E.O. Music remained one of her greatest joys, and she especially loved singing in church with family and friends, lifting her voice in worship, playing the piano, and finding joy in the fellowship of her church community.

Mary built a successful banking career starting in the 1960s in Newcastle and later rising to vice president at Rawlins National Bank. She earned her education at the Colorado School of Banking and gained colleagues' respect. After retiring in 1992, she returned to work at Rawlins National Bank from 1994 until 2000.

While Mary took pride in her professional accomplishments, her greatest joy was caring for those she loved. She had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether around the kitchen table at Sunday dinner, or during holidays and family celebrations, she created opportunities for connection that became treasured memories for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mary Jane believed deeply in the importance of family and instilled the values of faith, compassion, humility, generosity, resilience, and unconditional love, leaving a lasting influence on her family.

She is survived by her five daughters, Cathy Benene (Jimmy), Connie Pate (Dennis), Courtney Bohlender (Brad), Camilla Walker (Jack), and Candi Hofmann (Duane); her sister, Catherine (Dean) Stephany; 17 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary H. Campbell; her parents, Orval and Catherine (Brown) Thiessen; sisters Marcella Raikes, Colleen Jones, Sharon Heller, Pam Heller and other cherished family members who welcomed her into eternal life.

To her family, Mary Jane was far more than a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend; she was the heart of every gathering, the keeper of traditions, and the steady presence of grace who reminded everyone what mattered most. The Campbell family table will never quite be the same. Yet every Sunday meal shared, every hymn sung in church, every act of kindness offered, and every gathering filled with laughter will carry a piece of Mary’s spirit. Her love remains the thread that binds her family together, and her legacy will continue to live on for generations to come.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Casada Funeral Home. The viewing will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Casada Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The Rawlins Co-op Parish.
