Maureen Judy Shillinger, cherished by many and lovingly known as Judy, passed away on June 17, 2025, surrounded by her family in Cheyenne, Wyoming, following a brief illness. Born on September 2, 1962, in Rawlins, Wyoming, Judy lived a life full of joy, dedication, and deep connection with those she loved.
A proud graduate of Rawlins High School in 1981, Judy devoted herself to a career marked by hard work and resilience. Over the years, she served as a prison guard and a U.S. Navy security guard, earning the affectionate title of "The First Lady of AUTEC" during her time stationed in the Bahamas with her husband, Craig. However, her longest tenure was spent as a food service technician at St. Mary’s Middle School in Georgia, where her vibrant spirit and energetic personality drew people in and garnered her admiration.
Judy’s love for crafting was evident in her vibrant creations; she had a unique talent for transforming simple items into works of art. A bottle cap, seashell, and piece of string became beautiful items in her skilled hands—her creativity knew no bounds.
With family being the heart of Judy’s life, she found her proudest accomplishments in her children and grandchildren. She was a doting Nana, going above and beyond for her seven grandchildren: Madison, Emma, Ella, Mateo Shillinger, Valentina, Mita, and Carson Thomas. The memories she created with them will be cherished forever. Judy's loving husband, Craig, described their time together, saying they could never pick a favorite memory because simply being together was, in their eyes, "the best time."
She leaves behind a loving family: her mother Irene Martinez; brothers Deval and Margaret Martinez, Neil and Cindy; sons Reggie and Christine Shillinger, Nyle Shillinger; and daughter Tori and Tyler Thomas. Judy was predeceased by her father, Wilford Martinez.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at Casada Funeral Home and Crematory in Rawlins, Wyoming, on June 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM, giving family and friends an opportunity to gather and share in the fond memories of her life.
Judy will be dearly missed, her laughter and spirited personality forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
