Melvin Eugene Forney, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Saratoga and Rawlins, Wyoming communities, passed away peacefully at home in Rawlins on July 22, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1931, in Saratoga, Wyoming, a place that forever shaped his character and values.

Melvin's life was marked by steadfast commitment to his family and deep roots in Wyoming. From his earliest days in Saratoga, he exhibited qualities of integrity, kindness, and resilience. Throughout his long and productive life, Melvin cultivated strong and meaningful relationships with those around him, always putting family first. He was a proud veteran who service in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Forney, whose unwavering support and partnership were central to his life. Melvin was a proud and caring father to Janice Steed (Terry King), Cheryl Power (Jim), and Tim Forney. (Rachel). 

Melvin’s legacy endures through his cherished grandchildren: Travis Steed, Kirk Forney, Guy Pelletier, Devin Pelletier, Philip Forney, and Andrew Forney and numerous great-grandchildren. His guidance, humor, and wisdom influenced each of their lives, instilling in them the values he held dear.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Geneva Bowman, and brother-in-law, Phil Ulman. Their enduring bonds of family and friendship brought Melvin great comfort and joy over the years.

Melvin was preceded by his father, Harry Forney, his mother, Irene Forney, and siblings Diane Snively, Robert Forney and Ted Forney. The foundation they provided and the memories they built together remained an important part of Melvin’s life and will be honored by those who survive him.

Throughout his ninety-five years, Melvin lived a life guided by principle and dedication to those he loved. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will be held dearly by a wide circle of family and friends.

A  service for family and friends in remembrance of Melvin Eugene Forney will be held in Elk Mountain, with the  date and time to be determined.

He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply.
