Patsy Lucero

June 21, 1952 — March 27, 2021

Patsy Lucero, 68 of Rawlins, WY passed away peacefully in her sleep in Hawthorne, CA on March 27, 2021.

Patsy was born June 21, 1952 to Patricio Varela and Celia Encinas Varela in Las Vegas, NM.  Patsy grew up in Las Vegas and graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1971.  She attended New Mexico Highland University after high school where she aspired to be a teacher.  She met her lifelong partner Frank Lucero in 1972 in Las Vegas, NM.  They were married on June 16, 1973.  Patsy and Frank relocated to Wyoming in December of 1973 where they would start a family.

Patsy enjoyed cruising around town with Frank and taking many long car rides.  She loved to cook, play penny slots, and bingo.  She really enjoyed hanging out at the local laundry mat catching up with all the local gossip with her friends.  Patsy was a true warrior having to deal with several medical issues throughout most of her adult life.  Her faith and strength never wavered.

Patsy is survived by her three sons; Anthony (Sam Whinery) Lucero of Rawlins, Wyoming, Gilbert (Lupe) Lucero of Hawthorne, CA, and John (Jessica Penrod) Lucero of Rawlins, WY.  Siblings were Pat (Rita) Varela of Las Vegas, NM, Anselmo (Geri) Varela of Espanola, NM, Elizabeth (Gene) Quintana of Rawlins, WY, Roseann (Gilbert) Vigil of Las Vegas, NM, Santiago (Juanita) Varela of Las Vegas, NM, and Bobby Varela of Las Vegas, NM.  Patsy’s mother joined her in eternal life on April 4, 2021.

Patsy was preceded in death by her husband Frank, father Patricio Varela, and brothers Ray Varela and Rudy Varela.

Patsy will be greatly missed by all her family.  She had a special relationship with all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and everyone who ever met her.
