Philip Anderson

Philip LeRoy Anderson, 92, of Rawlins, passed away on July 11, 2014 after a brief illness. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday July 19, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Rawlins with Tom Thompson officiating. Phil was born in Dwight, Kansas on December 5, 1921 to Ansom and Faye (McCright) Anderson. He graduated from Dwight High School in 1938. Phil served in the United States Army during World War II as a Sergeant in a Glider squadron. After his discharge in 1946, he worked in the restaurant field in Oklahoma City for several years before meeting and marrying Nina Mae Bartee on February 14, 1950. They owned a restaurant together and then went into the printing\stationary business in 1969 and relocated the family to Casper, Wyoming. They owned Kintzel Blueprint there for a few years and then in 1974, moved to Rawlins and purchased Horizon Printing & Stationary. They sold the business in 1987 and retired. Nina passed away in 1989. Phil re-married on November 10, 1990 to Gladys Luttrell and both stayed quite active together until Gladys' passing in 2008. He enjoyed various activities at the Rawlins Rec Center such as bean bag, wallyball, playing bridge around town, repairing clocks, and time spent with his close friends. Phil was also a charter member of the local coin club in Rawlins. Phil is survived by his son, Jim and wife Rita of Loveland, Colorado; step-granddaughter, Andrea Ortega (Jamie) of Fort Collins, Colorado; sisters, Betty Dutton and Norma Dutton of Council Grove, Kansas and Shirley Roberts of Sun City Center, Florida. Phil is also survived by step-children, Andrea Tillett (Lionel), Bill Bartee (Candy) and Janice Miller (Jim) all of Bethany, Oklahoma. Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Lowell; and step-daughter Joanie. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Vincent DePaul Society P.O. Box 1654 Rawlins, WY 82301 or the charity of your choice.
