Ramona Stroud

September 29, 1942 — June 27, 2014

Rawlins resident, Ramona Ana (Anna) Bernal Stroud died Friday, June 27, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County from Stage 4 Lung Cancer at the age of 71. She was born September 29, 1942 in Mora County, New Mexico to Sefernia (Maria Sanchez) and Abenesio (Jose) Bernal. She died two days before her 51st Wedding Anniversary to Jack W. Stroud. Anna's father was a sheep herder and moved his family to Rawlins in 1950 when she was 8 years old. She learned how to speak English while attending elementary school in Rawlins. She made Rawlins her home until the time of her death. Anna graduated from Rawlins High School in 1961. She married Jack W. Stroud on June 29, 1963 in Rawlins where shortly they began their family. Anna lived for her children and her grandchildren. During their years of marriage she was the home maker, spending every waking minute with her children and taking care of her husband. Jack and Anna had their four children heavily involved in sports, and Jack coached their children when the Union Pacific Railroad would allow. His job was very demanding so Anna took over the coaching role with her children. Anna was a loving sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished her friends in the Red Hats, enjoyed sewing, cooking, going to the country, and spending time with her family. She spent many hours traveling around watching her granddaughter and grandson play sports. Anna was an avid gambler and loved traveling to casinos around the States gambling on the penny slots and quite often a winner. She obtained a CNA License in her 40's and took care of her mother and mother-in-law. Cancer may have taken this beautiful woman from us but her memories will live on through her children, grandchildren, husband, family and friends. Survivors include husband Jack W., daughter De Shann Schinkel (Kerry, grandson Kerry Ray) of Rawlins, son Jack A. Stroud (Stacey, step-granddaughters Dominique, Jacquie, and Jaime) of Colby, Kansas, daughter Katilia Skinner (Joe, granddaughters Nickayla, Katerra, and Sierra) of Rawlins, daughter Chantall Cherry (Jack Colson , step-granddaughters Sydney and Samantha) of Gillette, sister Maria Ortez (Roberto) of Michigan, brother Juan Bernal (Vangie) of New Mexico, sister Toni Leal of Cheyenne, sister Vangie Warren (Duce) of Illinois, brother Adolf Bernal (Irene) of Rawlins, brother Albert Bernal (Betty Lou) of Nevada, brother Ernest Bernal of Evanston, sister Lillian (Patsy) Guevara of Rawlins, bother Rudy Bernal (Regena) of Arizona, sister Marilynn Ross (Jim) of Rawlins and brother Robert Bernal (Rose Mary) of Denver. Karen Buckingham will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rawlins Cemetery.
