Robert Lee
Power
May 18, 1958 – April 24, 2026
Rawlins Elks Lodge #609
3:00 - 6:00 pm (Mountain time)
It is with deep deep sadness we share the loss of our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend on April 24th, 2026. A devoted husband, a proud father, a loyal sibling and friend with a spirit as wild and open as the Wyoming sky.
Robert Lee Power (Bob) was born May 18th, 1958, in Cortez, Colorado at just 2 lbs. Growing up his family was on the road between Colorado and Arizona following his father's trade. In 1971, when Bob was 13, the Power family settled in Rawlins, which was the beginning of establishing their roots in Wyoming.
Bob worked with the Union Pacific Railroad as a fueler upon graduating high school. And it wasn't long after that he headed to Sinclair (Parco) where he learned the welding trade from the old boys at the refinery. He traveled away from home welding in locations across the West and Mid-West regions of the United States to make a living. Over the years he became well known for his welding skills as he was a versatile combination welder and a very hard working man. They'd say, "It doesn't matter how big the gap - he'll always fill it!" The last several years of his career were spent back at Sinclair, as one of the old boys, managing construction jobs and teaching his kin and the next generation the way of the trade. He recently retired hanging his hat in 2022.
It was 1988, when Bob met the love of his life, Wendy, and her daughter (Johnna) in Wendy's hometown of Lander, Wyoming. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Cheyenne Wyoming, married in 1989, and together began building their family on "the farm" off Happy Jack Road. They were blessed with the births of their two children, daughter Skyler Lee in 1990 and son Jace Patrick in 1991. Becoming a father was one of his greatest prides. This was only the beginning of Bob & Wendy's unwavering partnership filled with resilience, laughter, and adventure. The mountains, open plains, and quiet dawns were also a big part of his sanctuary. He enjoyed riding and training his horses, pigs, chinese fighting geese, and animal du jour brought home to the farm. When time allowed he would guide horseback big-game hunting trips from the farm and tend to the family's greenhouse. Growing some of the best cherry tomatoes around.
In 1993, Bob moved his family to Lander to be closer to his wife's family where they resided for 23 years. Those years were filled with many adventures that always included lots of family and friends: lake and ocean trips to Seminole, Boyson, Glendo, Ocean Lake, Cabo San Lucas, MX; Cancun, MX; Homer, AK (always on the hunt for fish no matter the season); camping up Louis Lake Road; snowmobile trips to Togwotee Pass and South Pass; skiing and snowboarding in Jackson, Park City, and Ogden; deck and yard parties; building his cabin in the Red Desert. Those who knew him will remember his boundless energy, his willingness to try anything once, and the way he could turn an ordinary day into an adventure worth retelling.
In 2016, Bob and his wife moved to Rawlins to be closer to work, family, and their cabin in the Red Desert. Bob spent much of his free time at the cabin with family and friends and traveling. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting elk, deer, antelope, birds and small game. Though hunting and fishing were his passion he also enjoyed just being submerged in the wilderness and witnessing the wildlife live. His joy and love for sharing those moments with family and friends was undeniable.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Juanita Power. Bob is survived by his wife and soulmate of 36 years, Wendy Power; daughter Johnna (Nate) Minemyer/Bruns of Anchorage, AK; daughter Skyler (Aaron) Rose of Sapulpa, OK; Jace Power of Lander, Wyo.; step-son Jake (Candace) Vialapando of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren Margot Bruns and Dean Rose; sister Marilyn(Royce) Higgins, brother William (Rhonda) Power; sister Patty Power; brother James(Cheryl) Power; sister Carol Power; mother-in law Mary Alexander; brother-in law Wade(Robyn) Alexander; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
Though his time here was far too short, he was a man that made every day count. He lived a life full of purpose, adventure, and a love that will continue to guide those he left behind.
A celebration of his life will be held on June 6th, 2026 at the Elks Lodge in Rawlins, Wyoming from 3pm-6pm, 403 W Buffalo Street. The family invites all who knew him to share memories, photos, and stories that capture Bob's spirit. Let's carry on his legacy. Salud.
