November 18, 1940 — March 27, 2014

Wilbur Robert "Bob" Saxby, Jr., 73, of Rawlins, WY, passed away on March 27, 2014, following a sudden illness, surrounded by family and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2014,, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Carbon County Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Rawlins. Rev. Gene Washburne of F.S.B.C. will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow the funeral in the Rawlins Cemetery. Bob was born in Hillsboro, IL on Nov. 18, 1940, to parents Vera (Stewart) and Wilbur R. Saxby, Sr. He graduated from Litchfield High School and continued on to receive a B.A. from Louisiana College and an MEd from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Bob was married to Janet DeField on March 8, 1963; they were married for 51 years. Bob worked as a water treater for Sinclair Oil for 28 years. Prior, he served as preschool children's director at churches in Louisiana and Oklahoma. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, assigned to the USS Sulffork Co. Bob loved trains and enjoyed model railroading, crossword puzzles and spending time with family. He was actively involved in St Vincent De Paul Society and his church, having served in various capacities including Deacon. He served on the executive board of the Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention and was a member of the American Legion and a charter member of WWII museum. Bob is survived by his wife, Janet Saxby; son, Jonathan Saxby; daughter, Margaret Saxby; grandchildren, Cameron and Quinn Culhane; sister-in-law, Sylvia Downes and her husband, Richard Downes; nephew, George Downes; and other family and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Vera Saxby; nephew, Robby Downes; and brother-in-law, Robert Downes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St Vincent De Paul Society, 222 W. Spruce St. Rawlins, WY 82301. The Saxby family wishes to thank the staff of Memorial Hospital of Carbon County.
